The Birmingham Hippodrome is a world-famous theatre located on Hurst Street in the Chinese Quarter of Birmingham city centre.
Birmingham Hippodrome is the UK’s most popular single auditorium theatre. It welcomes over 500,000 visitors every year.
Although best known as the home stage of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, the Hippodrome hosts a wide variety of other performances including visiting opera and ballet companies, touring shows, pantomime and drama.
The hippodrome’s resident partners are Birmingham Royal Ballet and DanceXchange. It also presents all of Welsh National Opera’s repertoire and was a founding co-producer of the award-winning International Dance Festival.
The Hippodrome is the venue for West End touring theatrical shows, allowing local people to experience the West End magic without having to trek all the way to London. Recent shows include Wicked, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Lion King, Matilda, Mary Poppins and We Will Rock You.
The Birmingham Hippodrome is also the proud holder of the world’s biggest Pantomime. Every Christmas, families from all over the country come to enjoy the traditional panto laughs.
The Hippodrome Projects programme offers outstanding opportunities in schools and colleges all across the community, as well as bringing to life spectacular outdoor events. Visitors can book a ticket for a wide variety of shows.

Getting to the Hippodrome
The hippodrome can’t be missed in the heart of the city centre. Just look for the giant “H”! But it is a large building that can be tricky to navigate. The main entrance address is Hurst Street. There is also a public entrance on Thorp Street.
