About Saxilby
Just west of the River Till, and with the Foss Dyke acting as a border to the south, the large village of Saxilby is around 6 miles from Lincoln and is part of a civil parish that also includes the neighbouring village of Ingleby. The Foss Dyke navigation is thought to be the oldest canal in the UK that is still in use, being Roman in origin, although most of the waterway’s route dates from a 12th century refurbishment.
Local facilities exist in the village making it a great place to live or visit, including a Primary School, Co-Op, Fish & Chip shop, The Sun Inn, library and village hall. Saxilby also has a small train station that is the only stop between the two key towns of Lincoln and Gainsborough.
Saxilby is twinned with the Dutch municipality of Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude, now absorbed as a part of the larger area of Haarlemmermeer as of 2019.
A new development of houses at the north of the village is being built by Taylor Wimpey. Known as Saxilby Heights, the increase in homes represents an increase in interest in the place for commuters to the neighbouring towns, being only a short train journey in either direction.
