About Chorleywood
There has been a settlement in the Chorleywood area as far back as the Paleolithic era, as the production of flint tools has been found nearby. After the Romans invaded Britain, a permanent village with working mill and brewery was built on the ancient site.
Known as the home of the modern loaf of bread, it was in Chorleywood that a long life, plastic wrapped, sandwich loaf was first created. It is thought that more than 80% of all the bread now consumed in the UK is still manufactured the Chorleywood way.
