About Winnersh
Located roughly halfway beween the centre of Reading, and nearby Wokingham, the village of Winnersh developed around the railway, and a station which opened in its current form in 1910. The Winnersh Crossroads, the central focal point of the village, has been used for many purposes over the years, before a Sainsbury’s was built on the site in 1997.
Winnersh Meadows is a 10-hectare country park, just to the north of the village, on the southern side of the A329(M). In the Victorian era, the meadows formed part of farmland, and have been redeveloped over the last couple of decades by a local neighbourhood action group with the help of a grant from the National Lottery.
Namechecked by David Brent in TV sitcom The Office, Winnersh was also the place where the Spoonyville trend of 2020 began. Local residents displayed their homemade spoons during the COVID-19 lockdown, inspiring other villages from around the world to create Spoonyvilles of their own.
