Level 7, The Mailbox, Birmingham, West Midlands, B1 1RF
BBC Birmingham is one of the oldest regional arms of the BBC. BBC Birmingham is located in the city centre inside The Mailbox, just off Queensway.
Birmingham was the first region outside London to broadcast the corporation’s radio and television transmissions. Television is broadcast from the Sutton Coldfield television transmitter. For many years, BBC Birmingham was based at the Pebble Mill Studios. However, it moved in 2004 to the brand-new Mailbox facility in Birmingham city centre.
BBC Midlands is also housed in the Mailbox and should not be confused with BBC Birmingham. BBC Birmingham is the name of the Network Productions Centre that makes TV and radio programmes. BBC Midlands is a regional operation, like BBC South. It provides news, current affairs and other regional programmes.
