The relatively small village of Saighton is a couple of miles southeast of Chester where much of the land is owned by Hugh Grosvenor, the current Duke of Westminster, whose seat is at Eaton Hall. The large country house mostly dates from the 19th century and is located just west of Saighton. As an active house, Eaton Hall is not open to the public, although the estate does aim to play an active role in the local community life of the village.
Although Saighton is still not a sizeable settlement, it has a lengthy history nonetheless, with a place named ‘Saltone’ in the area dating from before the Norman conquest of 1066. The land has been under the ownership of the Grosvenor family since the 1440s, with many of the village’s residents originally working on the land.
There are two schools in the village – the local Church of England primary school and also the independent Abbey Gate College, a fee-paying independent school that caters for both primary and secondary education. Older children requiring state education have to travel to either nearby Christleton or Malpas.
Whether you live in Saighton itself or in surrounding places such as Waverton, Tattenhall and Gatesheath, there will be a style of shutter to suit your home. Contact Shuttercraft and book your free home appointment today.
