About Willaston
Located in the east of the county of Cheshire, roughly halfway between Crewe and Nantwich, the village of Willaston is bisected by the main railway line between the two towns. It is not to be confused with another village, also called Willaston, on the other side of Chester on the Wirral peninsula.
Willaston’s great claim to fame is the annual World Worm Charming Championships, hosted in the village since 1980 and attracts competitors from around the world. Several celebrities have participated in the festivities, including Rory McGrath and Paddy McGuiness. They featured the contest in their short-lived television programme, Rory and Paddy’s Great British Adventure.
There are two pubs in the village that provide a range of beverages for locals and visitors. The Lamb in the south of Willaston is based in a Georgian building and conveniently located opposite the village store. At the same time, the Nag’s Head can be found in a later Edwardian property by the bus stop.
