About Truro
The southernmost city in mainland Great Britain, Truro is located on the meeting place of the rivers Kenwyn, Allen, Tinney and gives its name to the Truro River, leading out to join the Fal, which then heads out to the sea. The town grew up around a castle that was built in the 12th century by Richard de Luci, though this had fallen into ruins by 1270.
Truro grew during the 18th and 19th centuries due to the growth of the tin mining industry in Cornwall. As a result, there are still a number of older properties, as the town experienced a surge in population when it became known for its ironworks, potteries and tanneries.
One of the most reasonable features of the city is the Cathedral, which although Gothic in style was actually only completed in 1910. It is centrally located next to the main shopping precinct, which is home to a range of local stores and eateries, as well as the Royal Cornwall Museum, another main attraction in Truro.
