About Bessacarr
Found on the city’s southeastern edge, bordered by the M18 motorway, the Doncaster suburb of Bessacarr is one of the most affluent areas locally, particularly on St Wilfrid’s Road and Warning Tongue Lane. Bessacarr is largely concurrent with the neighbouring suburb of Cantley, with the boundaries nominally placed upon supposed ancient land divisions.
Much of Bessacarr is to the west of the motorway, although there are further housing estates in the parish that Warning Tongue Lane or the A638 can access. Much of the educational provision in the area is either independent Catholic-run schools or academies, including the Alternative Provision Free Secondary of St Wilfrid’s, catering to just over 100 children with special academic needs.
Arguably the most famous person from Bessacarr is Louis Tomlinson, the singer and songwriter who rose to fame as part of X Factor boy band, One Direction. Being raised in the suburb, Tomlinson went to The Hayfield School in neighbouring Auckley and has repeatedly returned to Doncaster when touring, clearly being proud of his upbringing.
