About Giffnock

Just south of Glasgow on the route of the A77 is Giffnock, a town that has been named since at least 1530, when King James V of Scotland donated the land named Giffnock to Hugh Montgomerie, the 1st Earl of Eglinton. Frequently named one of the most affluent areas of Scotland, Giffnock went through a period of rapid expansion in the Victorian era, with sandstone quarrying providing wealth in the area, along with some coal mining that was mainly for industrial use.

Arguably the most famous person to come from Giffnock is former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Born at the Orchard Maternity Nursing Home in 1951, the future Labour politician and his family relocated to Kirkcaldy when he was just three years old. The hospital was converted into a hotel in 1962, and the Orchard Park Hotel is still a thriving business to this day.

Giffnock train station provides regular services into Glasgow Central, making it perfect for commuters into the city, as well as offering services to the city of Carlisle and Stranraer, the large town on the banks of Loch Ryan. The smaller stations of Williamwood and Whitecraigs also serve the people of Giffnock, offering fantastic public transport around the wider Glasgow area.

Whatever the shape or size of your window or interior space, you can find a window shutter that is right for you. Book a free survey and discover a local, helpful service in the local area.
