About West Reading
Giving its name to a borough of Pennsylvania that was settled in the early 19th century, West Reading is a part of Berkshire, and specifically part of the wider town of Reading, located just to the west of the A33 main road that bisects the town.
Reading West train station is located just off of Oxford Road, the main high street of West Reading, and is located not too far from the main Reading central station. Elm Park was based in West Reading, the stadium for Reading FC for over 100 years between 1896 and 1998. Following its closure, the area was redeveloped as a housing estate.
The area was once home to Battle Hospital, which began life as a workhouse during the Victorian era, becoming a general hospital in 1948, and admitting patients until its closure in 2005. The buildings have now been demolished and the area has been redeveloped for a Tesco and a housing estate.
