About Scampton

Predominantly known for the famous RAF base to the east of the village, Scampton has existed as a settlement for much longer, though mainly with an agricultural basis, due to the large quantity of farmland nearby.

The parish church dedicated to St John the Baptist incorporates building elements from the 1600s. Still, the majority of the Anglican place of worship now dates from the 18^th century, when it experienced a number of updates. Due to the village’s close association with the British armed forces, there is war dead buried in the churchyard, and there is also a memorial on the grounds by the side of the High Street main road.

The RAF base itself, RAF Scampton, was the base of the famed Dambusters group who led the famous Second World War raids that inspired the popular 1955 film. It has also been the location of the iconic Red Arrows group of aerial acrobatic pilots that regularly appear at events around the UK.

Scampton C of E Primary School is a relatively small establishment. It provides junior-level education for children in the area, with pupils coming from neighbouring villages as well as Scampton itself. As a facility, it was rated as ‘Good’ in its most recent Ofsted inspection.
