About Goldington

Based around the historic village, Goldington was subsumed into Bedford in 1934, with the parish church of St Mary the Virgin being dated back at least as far as 1559.

Just north of the A4280 Goldington Road, the Bedford suburb is also close to the River Great Ouse, the sizeable watercourse that runs from Bedford through Cambridgeshire to the Wash bay and estuary. The majority of Goldington is unparished, with all community services coming under the direct governance of Bedford Borough Council.

The small mansion of Goldington Hall was built in the 1650s for a local landowner, and was eventually rebuilt in 1874. As the area developed and the town of Bedford grew around it, the former Goldington Hall began to be used as a pub, and was the scene of a fire in 2008, before returning to its role as a private home.

Located on the edge of the former village (in what is now the area of Newnham) is Goldington Castle, otherwise known as Risinghoe Castle, a 20 foot mound earthwork that is thought to be the site of a Norman-era mottle and bailey castle. There is some academic debate as to whether the castle site was ever a castle, and it is doubtful whether the area has ever been extensively excavated or surveyed for more details.

Whether your home in Goldington goes along with a contemporary or classic twist, there will be a shutter to suit your tastes, based on your choices of style and material. Book a free home appointment with your local Shuttercraft today and find a superb shutter solution right here in Goldington.
