About Heybridge
Located pretty much next to Maldon on the banks of the River Chelmer where it meets the River Blackwater, the large village of Heybridge, including the smaller Heybridge Basin, has been settled since at least the Iron Age, with evidence of a large settlement being unearthed through local archaeological efforts.
Separated from the larger town of Maldon by the Heybridge Creek and Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation watercourses, there is much to see and do in the area, including the Combined Military Services Museum, The Museum of Power and Beeleigh Steam Mill, a Grade II listed former Flour Mill that is open for guided tours throughout the year.
Heybridge was largely agricultural until the growth of Maldon, with the main employer being E H Bentall & Co, a manufacturer of farm machinery that was based in the south of the village for nearly 180 years. The Bentalls Shopping Centre, home of the local Asda, is located on the site of the former factory.
