About Shenfield
Located on the northeastern side of Brentwood in Essex, the former village of Shenfield is now considered to be a suburb of its larger neighbour.
Following the English Civil War, Puritan clergyman and pioneer Nathaniel Ward returned to England, having written the first North American constitution in 1641. He lived the last four years of his life as the minister of St Mary the Virgin church in Shenfield.
Shenfield has a railway station on the Great Eastern Main Line and is the point where the line splits, with one half heading off towards Chelmsford and other services heading off towards Southend. Originally opening in 1843, Shenfield provides the end of the TFL Rail route as part of the London Underground network, being located in “Zone 9” of the iconic infrastructure.
Education in the Brentwood suburb is provided by two secondary and two primary schools. Shenfield High School and St Martins School provide learning opportunities for older children, while Long Ridings and Shenfield St Mary’s cater to younger minds. Schools in Hutton are also popular with residents as they are also within a 5-minute drive of the area.
