About Clacton-on-Sea
Halstead is a civil parish and town located in the Braintree District of Essex, England. It initially developed on the hill to the north of the River Colne. The name Halstead is said to derive from the Old English ‘hald’ and ‘stede’ meaning healthy farm or place of refuge.
The broad High Street proudly boasts the 14th century Church of St Andrew, which was renovated in the Victorian period. The church retains much older decoration, including tomb monuments from the 14th century and earlier.
The town consists of various independent boutique shops, family butchers and bakers, cafes, restaurants, a large amount of floral attractions, buildings and two beautiful Churches.
In the year 2000 there was an effort on encourage pride in the environment and a desire to keep the local area clean. Halstead in Bloom was formed in 2000 and from 2009 have been have been winning the GOLD awards every year since.
