About Dowanhill

Located to the North of the River Clyde, and nestled between the areas of Partickhill, Hyndland, Woodlands and Kelvinhaugh, the residential area of Dowanhill is made up of a mixture of terraced townhouses, villas and collonaded tenement buildings.

Shortly after the turn of the millennium, a number of traffic calming measures were introduced in Dowanhill to help maintain the calmer feel of the suburb.

Thought to be the first registered troop of Boy Scouts, the 1^st Glasgow Scout Group has existed in one form or another since 1908, just months after the famous camp off the Dorset coast. The group continues to meet in the Dowanhill area at a site on Victoria Circus, over 110 years later.

Windows in the West is a famous 1993 watercolour by the Scottish artist Avril Paton. Currently displayed in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, the painting depicts a 4-story sandstone tenement building in winter. A building style that is seen throughout the city, the property in the painting is based on the real-life 35 Saltoun Street in Dowanhill.
