About Thornwood
Located just off of the A814 and A739 on the northern bank of the River Clyde, the largely residential area of Thornwood is concurrent with Partick, being served by the Partick Railway Station and the Dumbarton Road.
Thornwood Park is a small but popular outdoor area that is well used by local children. Being well maintained by Glasgow City Council, there is a well-stocked play area on the raised grass section, largely bordered by hedgerows and surrounded by tenement style buildings. The park was created from the space left by the removal of disused railway lines.
Thornwood Primary School, just opposite the park and also on Thornwood Avenue, caters for local children up to year 6 (around age 11). An associated Nursery Class is situated in the smaller building just opposite. It is one of a number of primary schools nearby that feed into the Hyndland Secondary School.
