About Enderby
A small town to the South West of Leicester, Enderby is nestled in the triangle formed by the connection of the M69 and the M1. Due to housing developments, the town is now closely linked with the village of Narborough, found on the banks of the River Soar, and where rail travel is provided to the people of Enderby.
Located in the Enderby parish, although situated just to the north, is Fosse Shopping Park, one of the biggest out-of-town retail facilities in Britain. Named after the famous Fosse Way Roman Road, and initially opened in 1989, it combines commercial and industrial properties and is owned by the Crown Estate.
Enderby Town Football Club was a local team formed in 1900 by a group of quarry workers that eventually grew to be a dominant force in the 1960s, playing a prominent role in Division One, and in 1982 moved to a new ground, United Park, changing their name to Leicester United in the process. Appearing for a brief period in the Premier Division, the club finally closed in the 1996-97 season due to financial problems, just four years off of their centenary.
