As with many towns in the Midlands, Rugeley is a place with a varied and interesting history. In 1962, Councillor Madden of the Rugeley Urban District Council made a transatlantic call (via satellite) to the Mayor of Western Springs. It was a more positive claim to fame than Dr William Palmer, a son of the town and infamous murderer known as the Rugeley Poisoner.
Located on the edge of the Cannock Chase Area of Natural Beauty, and running parallel with the River Trent, Rugeley is about halfway between Lichfield and Stafford, the county town of Staffordshire. Rugeley is served by two train stations – Rugeley Town and Rugeley Trent Valley.
Online retailer Amazon produced a number of jobs in the town when it opened an order fulfilment centre in 2011. The 700,000 sq ft site is on the Towers Business Park, just off of the A451. Online health supplement specialist ZipVit, wholesalers Waterside Food Services and Premier Nutrition are also based in Rugeley.
