About Shepshed
Heavily involved in the wool industry for many years, Shepshed (originally sheepshed) sits just to the west of the M1 motorway, and is fed by the Black Brook water course that feeds into the River Soar on the outskirts of nearby Loughborough.
There are many green spaces around Shepshed, such as Glenmore Park, Little Haw Lane Playing Fields, and the Shepshed Nature Reserve. Morley Quarry is also nearby, and is a disused quarry just south of the town that is popular with dog walkers.
Songwriter Bruce Woolley, known for his work with Trevor Horn, Grace Jones and 80’s pop band Dollar, lived for a while in Shepshed, having been born in Loughborough. He was also a founding member of the Buggles, with Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes, who went to number 1 with their song “Video Killed the Radio Star”.
