About Boultham
Boultham is one of the larger suburbs in Lincoln, situated to the west of the River Witham, the large body of water that covers most of Lincolnshire and joins up in Boston with The Haven, the tidal river that flows out into The Wash. The river feeds a number of lakes in the area, including The Lake at Boultham Park, the Swanholme Lakes, and the Millennium Lakes of the Whisby Nature Park.
The area of moorland known as Boultham Mere was created in 1989. The nature reserve is situated near the railway line that snakes into the centre of Lincoln and is looked after by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. Boultham Mere is home to a colony of Variable Damselfly that is of national importance for conservation reasons.
As the area of Boultham is bordered to the north by the Brayford Pool that is just off the centre of Lincoln, the area includes the University of Lincoln. With origins dating back as far as 1861, Lincoln’s higher education establishment gained university status in 1992, and now boasts a few separate campuses scattered around the wider Lincoln area.
The Boultham ward on Lincoln City Council is usually represented by three local councillors and the ward on Lincolnshire County Council by one representative from the Boultham area.
