About Branston

An area of the British Isles that has been settled since at least the Bronze Age, the large village of Branston has many historic ties, with axe heads found on the grounds of Branston Hall and archaeological evidence of a Roman villa just off of Folly Lane.

Branston Hall is a Grade II listed stunning manor house in the heart of the village that has acted as the home of local landowners since the 1700s when the ground came into the ownership of Sir Cecil Wray. Throughout its history, the beautiful Georgian property has been the seat of the famous Melville family, an RAF hospital, private sanatorium and nursing home before being restored as a hotel and wedding venue known as The Vedanta.

Branston Beck runs through the village, a small stream that trickles through both Branston and Heighington before joining with the River Witham just east of Washingborough. There is still a Victorian-era water pump just off of Waterwheel Lane that used to draw water from the beck to supply nearby homes. However, the feature is now just for prosperity since Branston was added to the main water network.

Named after the village, one of the UK’s largest potato suppliers, Branston Potatoes, is one of the leading employers in the local area. There is also a sizeable solar farm in Branston that generates around 50 MW of energy to be fed back into the National Grid.

Whether you live in Branston itself or surrounding places such as Washingborough, Heighington, Nocton, Potterhanworth or Bracebridge Heath, there will be a style of shutter to suit your home. Contact Shuttercraft and book your free home appointment today.
