About Bricket Wood
A village close to Junction 21 of the M25, Bricket Wood is in the heart of rural Hertfordshire, falling roughly halfway between Watford and St Albans. The winding River Colne runs just southeast of the village and can be accessed via Drop Lane.
Mainly only occupied by farmers with an agricultural economy until the mid-19th century, Bricket Wood began to grow when the railway station opened in 1858, with the original building being the only survivor of its kind on the whole of the Abbey Line, between the two towns.
Bricket Wood does not have a traditional village centre, with no small hub for convenience stores or the high street, although there is a social club, two pubs (The Gate and The Black Boy), as well as St Luke’s Church, a uniquely shaped brick built Anglican place of worship.
One of the more infamous parts of Bricket Wood is the Spielplatz resort. Situated between Bricket Wood and its neighbour How Wood, Spielplatz is the longest-operating naturist resort in the UK and was founded in 1929.
