About Blunsdon
Comprising a number of small hamlets, the civil parish of Blunsdon is found just off of the A419 to the north of Swindon, although it maintains its sense of independence away from the thriving town centre. The area comprises the small settlements of Broad Blunsdon, Blunsdon St Andrew, Lower Blunsdon and Broadbush.
Existence of a settlement in Blunsdon goes back at least as far as Roman times, with evidence of a traveller’s rest being discovered near the site of the current Cold Harbour pub on the B4019. The Roman Road known as Ermin Street ran through Blunsdon, and there is still good road connectivity to Cirencester to this day.
Blunsdon is home to a heritage railway station on the Swindon and Cricklade Railway, which runs occasional steam services throughout the year. The station had originally closed in 1937, and by the late 1970s virtually all traces of the original structures had gone, meaning that all of the current buildings and platform have been built specifically for use with the tourist attraction.
