The first vines were planted in 1982 on the slopes of the Chiltern Hills, surrounded by beech woodland and overlooking the beautiful Hambleden Valley near Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, UK. Old Luxters to this day is still owned and run by the Ealand family. You’ll see this depth of expertise on display as expert guides talk you through the processes of production of each of the products, from the classic full mash brewing techniques using balanced hops and English barley varieties, and how they each lend something to the various types of brew to the luscious Blood Orange Reserve Liqueur.

A tour of Old Luxters takes a couple of hours, and is excellent value at £20. There’s also an excellent shop selling not only Old Luxters fabulous range of delicious products, but all you might want to accompany them, from fever tree tonic to go with the gin, to a wide variety of cheeses, jams, chutneys, relishes, crackers, patés, chocolates and snacks. Ask the knowledgeable staff to guide you in pairing the wines, beers and liqueurs with these and indeed any other foods you have in mind. It’s a tour in itself, and a great opportunity to put together a picnic for your day in the chilterns, or why not put together a gift hamper?

You’ve only really had the full Luxters experience if you’ve stayed the night, dined in the restaurant and had a delicious breakfast, then you’ve got the gorgeous Chiltern Hills to explore
