About Windsor
Located in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the historic market town of Windsor is best known for its eponymous castle, one of the official residences of the British Royal Family. Situated on the banks of the River Thames, Windsor is also close to the M4 motorway heading into London.
In 1543, three Protestants – Henry Filmer, Robert Testwood and Anthony Pearson – also known as the Windsor Martyrs, were burnt at the stake in Deanery Gardens, near the church of St John the Baptist.
Opened in 1996, the Legoland Windsor Resort is one of the key tourist attractions in the town, in addition to the castle, and was the second theme park Lego opened after their home country of Denmark. In 2012 the town’s council brought back the role of town crier to Windsor after the post had been kept vacant for 110 years after the previous occupant retired.
