About Broom

Like many of the suburbs and areas of Rotherham, Broom is named in line with local street names, including Broom Lane, Broom Avenue and Broom Road, being found between Moorgate and Whiston. Broom also adjoins the suburb of Herringthorpe.

Formerly a village in its own right before being subsumed into the larger town as it grew, Broom is largely built on the site of a former Roman fortification and was also approximately the site of a Saxon trading town.

There are many attractive properties in Broom, making it a fantastic place to live, as well as a good number of local facilities. There are pubs, restaurants, a medical centre, playing fields, allotments and the local place of primary education, Broom Valley Community School, rated good in the 2018 Ofsted report.

The late Victorian building known as Swinden House is at different times referred to as being in either Broom or neighbouring Moorgate. It was built by Thomas W. Badger, a member of a well-known Rotherham family who was prominent in legal circles of the late 19th century. It was originally called Red House and has more recently been used as the site of meeting rooms and conference centre for the British Steel industry and NAMTEC.

Whether you live in Broom itself or anywhere around Rotherham, there will be a shutter style to suit your design ideas. Get in touch with us at Shuttercraft and book your free home appointment today.
