About Hatfield

Once home to Elizabeth Tudor, the future Queen Elizabeth I, for many of her formative years, the historic town of Hatfield is just north of London and is now easily accessible via the A1(M) motorway. Hatfield is roughly halfway between Welwyn Garden City and St Albans, two of the most significant places in Hertfordshire county.

For much of the 20th century, Hatfield was dominated by airfield and aircraft production. In the 1930s, de Havilland started manufacturing fighter planes in the area, which continued until 1993, when British Aerospace consolidated its manufacturing lines elsewhere. After its closure, the site was used as a filming location for both Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers and has since been redeveloped into a sizeable business park.

Due to its commutable location, yet quieter atmosphere, Hatfield has proven to be an excellent location for many people living outside of London and travelling in. That has meant that many famous people have called the town home throughout the years, including Beatles producer George Martin, film director Guy Ritchie and author Barbara Cartland.

One of the attractions to the north of the town is the Mill Green Museum, a working 17th-century watermill on the banks of the River Lea. The current building is thought to have been built on the site of a much older watermill that was recorded in the Domesday Book.

Whether you live in Hatfield itself or anywhere in Hertfordshire, there will be a shutter to suit your home and style. Contact us at Shuttercraft and book your free home appointment today.
