About Cambourne
Sitting roughly halfway between Cambridge and St Neots just off of the A428, the relatively new settlement of Cambourne started to be constructed right at the end of the 20th century, around 20 years after Cambridgeshire County Council first mooted plans for a new town.
Cambourne was originally going to be named Monkfield after the farm that made up most of the land. However, this name was abandoned in favour of Cambourne, with Monkfield Lane and a pub known as the Monkfield Arms recognising the initial settlement.
Despite existing for just over 20 years, the Cambourne community has been building its own local feel since then. A range of sports clubs, including Cricket, Football, and Rugby teams, compete in county leagues. Run in partnership with Cambourne Parish Council, and there is also a Fitness and Sports Centre with a gym, swimming and other indoor sports facilities.
