Discover plantation shutters in Torquay
Despite the area being settled since Paleolithic times, most of Torquay has been built and expanded since the Victorian era. This has led to several similar-looking properties with original wooden window surrounds. These are often ideal for plantation shutters, and with such a busy and thriving tourist economy over the summer, residents often desire the added privacy that shutters provide.
Popularised as a seaside resort since the early 19th century, Torquay is often described as part of the “English Riviera”. It is home to various property styles perfect for window shutter treatment.
Terraced houses in the city have benefited greatly from wooden shutters, and by far, the most popular are the tier-on-tier and full-height plantation shutters. At Shuttercraft Devon, we offer a range of colour choices, in both paint and stain finishes, with a custom colour option guaranteed to help you achieve a look that will suit your home.
Shuttercraft internal shutters provide light control and added privacy while easily cleaning and blending in with almost any interior design. Characterful for contemporary and classic tastes, shutters are made-to-measure, so you can rest assured of a perfect fit every time, letting you enjoy them for years to come.

About Torquay
Probably best known due to its relationship with the crime writer Agatha Christie (who was born in the town) and as John Cleese’s inspiration for the sitcom Fawlty Towers, Torquay grew substantially during the first half of the 19th century due to its mild climate and scenic setting. In 1948 the town hosted the water sports events for the Summer Olympics, with the rest of the games being held in London.
Due to the area’s historic heritage, it is perhaps unsurprising that Torquay is home to one of Britain’s most important Stone Age sites, the Kents Cavern, which has remains to indicate the coexistence of early man and now-extinct animals. There are also many other tourist attractions in the town, such as Torquay Museum, with its permanent Agatha Christie exhibit, Living Coasts, home to a small colony of penguins, and the Babbacombe Model Village, which opened in 1963.
Located in the Tor Bay area, which provides a natural harbour, meant that Torquay has for many years been a safe place for shipping vessels navigating the English Channel. As the town developed over the years, it grew to incorporate several smaller settlements, such as Torre, Cockington, Hele, Shiphay and Babbacombe. The beautiful Torquay Golf Course is located in the St Marychurch area just above the cliffs.
There is much in Torquay to appeal to visitors and residents alike. If you’re considering giving your local home a new lease on life, why not contact us today and discover how stylish window shutters could transform your interior designs?
