About Fulford
Fulford is a beautiful village to the South of York, separated from the city centre by the beautiful Rowntree Park, which runs alongside the banks of the River Ouse. It contains fascinating plaques and exhibits detailing the history of York, from the ancient Roman origins, through the Viking period, and focussing on the more recent industrial history, and the Rowntree confectionary business founded in the city.
Fulford has a long and rich military history, being the site of the 11th century Battle of Fulford, between the northern earls and the Viking invaders. Today it is home to the barracks of the 15th Infantry, and a centre for the Royal Military Police.
The village is well-served by transport links. The Fulford Main Street links with the A64 just outside the village, at the site of the designer outlet. The numerous paths and cycleway into York and very pleasant and well-used, and there are numerous bus services.
