About Hereford

Both a cathedral city, and county town of Herefordshire, Hereford has been settled since at least the Anglo Saxon era, with a castle that once rivalled Windsor in terms of status. The town played a key role in the English Civil War, changing several hands between royalists and parliamentarians who saw it as a gateway to Wales.

Located on the banks of the river Wye, the abundance of water in Hereford has made it ideal as a centre of certain industry, being used for the wool trade and brewing. In particular, the city is known as the birthplace of Bulmers cider, founded in 1887, and is also home to the country’s only cider museum.

Hereford is also something of a centre of learning. Hereford University Centre is run in partnership with the University of Worcester, offering selected higher education courses without being a full university in and of itself. There are five colleges, including the Royal National College for the blind, one of the top learning centres for visually impaired people, and no fewer than seven secondary schools, taking in teenagers from around the area.

Whether you live in Hereford itself or in surrounding places such as Withington, Burghill or Brockhampton, there will be a style of shutter to suit your home. Contact Shuttercraft and book your free home appointment today.
