About Newbridge

Located in the northwest of Wolverhampton, the suburb of Newbridge has had settlements since at least the 13th century, when the Latin name “Novo Ponte” (literally New Bridge) is described in the area. A much later map from the 1770s indicates that the bridge site had moved but that the name was still in use.

With Smestow Brook and the canal running through the area, Newbridge is centred around the A41 Tettenhall Road, with that and the adjoining New Hampton Road West being the main thoroughfares that house many of the local facilities, including schools, care homes, takeaway restaurants and the Cranmer Methodist Church, named after the 16th-century archbishop and religious reformer.

The grounds of the Wolverhampton Lawn Tennis and Squash Club are based on Newbridge Crescent, and there is pedestrian access to the training ground of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC at nearby Compton Park via Newbridge Avenue.

A ‘Warren Truss’ style bridge from 1914 is situated over the canal just west of the suburb, constructed to carry a railway line from Wolverhampton to Bridgnorth. However, the line was never constructed, making it an architectural anomaly on a ‘disused’ railway line where there was never a railway.

Shuttercraft offers a range of custom-crafted products to suit every taste, making a perfect solution for Newbridge homeowners. Book a free home survey today and discover a choice to complement your interiors.
