About the New Forest

Originally used for the purpose of hunting deer, the New Forest has had a varied history, including being a source of timber for the Royal Navy. The Great Storm of 1703 had a devastating effect on the landscape of the New Forest when over 4000 oak trees were lost.

During the Second World War, the New Forest once again became a centre of military activity, including troops being stationed at Hurst Castle, airfields placed around the forest, as well as a prisoner of war camp at Setley Plain, near Brockenhurst.

Being designated as a National Park in 2005, the New Forest is one of the main tourist destinations on the south coast, due to a number of campsites, outdoor leisure activities and attractions such as Beaulieu Motor Museum.

In places such as Hythe, Lymington and Brockenhurst, newer properties sit alongside older cottages and Victorian townhouses, making shutters a stylish solution for the wide variety of windows found throughout the forest. At Shuttercraft we help you choose the shutters that work for you, so no matter where you live in the New Forest, we can help you find the window coverings that could transform your home.
