Available in a range of different colours, shapes, sizes and styles, there are also a whole host of optional extras to discuss with your local Shuttercraft, allowing you to customise shutters to complete your interiors.
Whether they are for a regular window, a gable end, patio door, conservatory or even a skylight, there is a shutter to suit almost every home scenario. The town of Dorchester is closely associated with the famed Victorian writer Thomas Hardy. Born in a cottage in the village of Upper Bockhampton, just east of the town, Thomas Hardy returned to live in Dorchester in Max Gate, a home built to his own specifications in 1885, where he lived until his death in 1928. The fictional town of Casterbridge, from Hardy’s 1886 novel, was based on Dorchester and some of Hardy’s experiences of the town growing up.
Just south of Dorchester is Maiden Castle, at one time it was the largest hill fort in Iron Age Britain, before falling into disuse and then partial occupation by the Romans, with remnants of a small temple still visible on the site. Maiden Castle was made a Scheduled Ancient Monument in 1981, and is now managed by English Heritage, proving popular with local dog walkers due to the abundance of pathways.
Based on the southern banks of the River Frome, Dorchester is surrounded by the A35 ring road, and serviced by two railway stations, Dorchester West and Dorchester South. On the west of the town is a new development known as Poundbury. Named after a hillfort and earthworks on the outskirts of Dorchester, Poundbury is a designed urban extension that is built on Duchy of Cornwall land, and strongly endorsed by Prince Charles.
