About Victoria Park
Located fairly centrally in the large town of Bournemouth, the suburb of Victoria Park is best known as the home of the town’s football club, also known as Victoria Park. It has been the home of football in Bournemouth for over a century, first being used for the sport in 1890 before briefly doubling as a greyhound race track at the start of the 1930s. Although never explicitly confirmed, the nascent stadium was likely built on farmland, explaining its flatness, with much of the town still undergoing the population boom of the 20th century.
There are a number of shops, restaurants and facilities along the main Wimborne Road that runs through the heart of the Victoria Park area, including a Sainsbury’s Local, Lidl and Waitrose.
In 2020, an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO) was applied to road users for Victoria Park Road, with the intention of creating a Low Traffic Neighbourhood in Victoria Park. One of the local primary schools (Moordown St John’s C of E Primary) and St John’s Church is located just off of neighbouring Vicarage Road.
Bournemouth University’s main campus is located just a short walk from the Victoria Park area, just the other side of the intersection of the A347 and A3049 trunk roads that run through the town.
